In agreement (forwarded)
In agreement
The boss of a campany, Edward Grump, was rude and a bully. No one liked him, especially his employees.
When he gave an order, he expected it to be obeyed immediately.
If anyone tried to argue with him, he fired them.
One day, Smith, a clerk, was sitting at his desk when his phone rang.
He picked it up, listened, then said immediately, "Yes, sir. Of course, sir."
Jones, another clerk who was sitting nearby, knew who Smith was talking to.
It had to be Edward Grump, the boss.
Smith had the look of fear on his face that everyone had when Grump spoke.
Jones could only hear Smith's end of the conversation, but it seemed to be the usual kind of thing.
"Yes, sir," Smith was saying. "Immediately, sir."
Then he'd listen for a minute before saying, "Of course, sir. As you say, sir. At once, sir."
Then, to Jones' horror and surprise, Smith said, "No, sir," and hung up the phone.
How could any employee say "No" to Edward Grump?
"Tell me, Smith," Jones said. "That was the boss you were speaking to, wasn't it?"
"Oh, yes," Smith said.
"Then how could you dare say 'No' to him?" Jones asked.
"Oh," Smith said. "He asked me if I would ever get tired of agreeing with him."
