Chinese leaders meet Bangladeshi PM

President Jiang Zemin has said that China values the development of friendly relations with neighboring countries, including Bangladesh. He made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who is on a five－day official visit to China.
Jiang Zemin says on the basis of sound political relations, the two countries have developed their economic and trade cooperation in recent years with good results.
He says China and Bangladesh stand side by side in the fight against terrorism. He also stressed that China pays much attention to South Asia, as the stability there concerns that of the entire Asia.
The Chinese President praised the effective measures taken by Zia for maintaining social stability and promoting economic development.
Zia says the agreements signed by the two countries during this visit will further push forward the development of their ties in the new century.
Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, told Zia that as ruling parties of the two developing countries, both the CPC and the Bangladeshi Nationalist Party face the task of developing economy, raising living standard, and maintaining social stability.
The two parties should promote exchanges so as to better perform their functions, Hu Jintao added.
China's top legislator Li Peng also met with the Bangladeshi prime minister, stressing the importance of strengthening exchanges at parliamentary levels.
